In short

A 1Namecard short link is a URL shortener with analytics. It sends `/<key>` on your organisation's address to any page or card and stores one row per click: country, device, browser and placement. It sets no cookies and stores no IP address. Starter allows 10 links, Team 200 and Business 2,000.

Last updated

What it does.

  • One key, one target.

The key is 2 to 40 lowercase letters, digits or hyphens. The target is a full address or a path on your site. A path gets ?s=<key> added, so leads from that link are attributed to it.

  • The status code you choose.

307 is the default and is never cached, so you can change the target later. 302 is also temporary. 301 and 308 are permanent, and browsers remember them. /r/<key> sends exactly your code. The bare /<key> can only answer 307 or 308.

  • Switch off, expire, fall back.

Use the Enabled switch, or set the last day a link works. A disabled or expired link sends visitors to its fallback address, else to the not-found target in Settings, else to a 404.

  • A different address by device.

Give iPhone and iPad one address, such as an App Store page, and Android another. Pass the query string on adds the visitor's parameters to the target, and the visitor's value wins.

  • Tags, notes and a UTM builder.

Tag links to filter the list, note where a code is printed, and let the UTM builder write utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign and utm_content into the target.

  • Previews that look right when pasted.

Override the title, the description and a 1200 by 630 image that WhatsApp, LinkedIn and Slack show. Test as shows what an iPhone, an Android, a desktop browser and each preview bot would get. It records no click.

  • One row per click.

Each row holds country, region, city, device, operating system, browser, language, referrer host, placement, bot and staff flags, and what was served. Analytics adds a series, a heatmap, breakdowns and a CSV, filtered by link.

Visitors get no cookies and the click row holds no IP address. Unique visitors are counted from a hash of the IP address and browser that changes every day, so nobody is followed across days. Bots and prefetchers are stored flagged and left out of counts, and so are staff visits. See link tracking without cookies.

  • Delete is soft. The click history stays, the key stays reserved, and Show deleted finds the link for a restore.
  • Export CSV downloads every link. The REST API also deletes and restores links, and the MCP server creates and updates them.

Questions about this feature.

Can I use my own domain for short links?

Yes, on Business, which includes one custom subdomain such as cards.yourcompany.com. Short links share the address of your cards. Starter and Team use the 1namecard.com address.

What is the difference between 307 and 301?

307 and 302 are temporary, so you can change the target later. 301 and 308 are permanent, and browsers remember them, so a change may not reach people who visited before. The default is 307.

Are bots and my own team counted?

No. Bots, prefetchers and staff visits are stored with a flag and left out of counts. Analytics has an Include internal switch.

Does a click record hold an IP address?

No. It holds the country, city, device, browser, language, referrer host and placement, and no cookie is set.

Can I create links from my own tools?

Yes. A read and write token for the REST API or the MCP server can create and change short links, on every plan.

Try it on your next show.
